An elderly woman was injured after being pinned under a vehicle in Hampstead on Wednesday, according to police.

Hampstead police responded to the Circle K gas station on Stage Road in Hampstead shortly after noon and located the elderly woman lying on the ground, according to a release. Police said the woman was conscious and alert but had sustained significant trauma to her leg.

Police said good samaritans on scene had to lift the vehicle, described as an SUV, off of the elderly woman to free her from under a tire. A tow truck operator who was at the gas station was among those who worked to free the elderly woman in under two minutes, per police.

According to police, a preliminary investigation determined that neither driver impairment, speed nor distracted driving appeared to be contributing factors in the incident. Conversely, police said, initial evidence suggested that solar glare and the vehicle's door pillar may have obstructed the driver's view of the pedestrian while the vehicle was making a turn in the parking lot.

Police said the driver of the SUV, who was not named, remained on scene and assisted with aid to the elderly woman. The driver also fully cooperated with responding officers, per police.

No information was released on the identity of the elderly woman or the good samaritans who assisted her.

Anyone with additional information regarding the accident is asked to contact the Hampstead Police Department at 603-329-5700 or email Detective Dyer at adyer@hampsteadpolice.com.
