Prosecutors say a Gonic, NH man purposely beat a male cat named "Buddy."

Charles Loeffler, 42, who lives in an apartment on Gonic Road, allegedly beat "Buddy" on March 5. It is not clear whether the cat belonged to him based on court documents.

Loeffler is charged with cruelty to animals and is facing up to seven years in prison if he is convicted.

Loeffler was indicted by a grand jury at Strafford County Superior Court in Dover on June 17, which means the case is moving toward a trial.
