The City of Portsmouth is bringing back its holiday lights contest. Here's how residents can participate.

Mayor Rick Becksted announced the return of the contest in a City Council meeting on November 16, and submissions are now open.

Residents desiring to participate can fill out the online form here. Those who prefer filling out a physical submission can print a form here. The deadline for submissions is December 10.

Judging, however, will be strict. All contest entries will be judged by school-aged children, who will be driven around various neighborhoods to make their choices. Judging will take place from December 12-20. There will be two categories: Best Classic Display, and Most Creative Display.

Becksted will announce the winners on December 21, and the following prizes are up for grabs:

Best Classic/Traditional Display – $500 Ricci Lumber Gift Certificate

Most Creative Display – $500 Home Depot Gift Certificate

Best Overall Display – $500 Lowe’s Gift Certificate

Honorable Mentions – $25 Gift Certificates
