It’s Youth Waterfowl Hunting Weekend on Saturday and Sunday in NH

It's Youth Waterfowl Hunting Weekend and officials at New Hampshire Fish and Game say it's a great way to get kids involved in the outdoor activity.

“It provides them the opportunity to go with an adult who knows the sport at a time of year when it’s still fairly warm and good numbers of birds are around. Quality time spent with a child during youth weekend can help foster an appreciation for hunting and the environment," said Jessica Carloni, Waterfowl Biologist for the NH Fish and Game Department.

Children must be 15 or younger and must be accompanied by a properly licensed adult who is over 18 years old. People can buy their hunting licenses here.

All regular season waterfowl regulations - including shooting hours and use of non-toxic shots - apply during the youth weekend, according to a press release.

Specific seasons and bag limits for various waterfowl are listed on the Fish and Game website at www.huntnh.com/hunting/waterfowl.html.

Some areas are closed to hunting so people are advised to make a plan of where they are going to go.

On the Seacoast, that includes areas around the Piscataqua River in Portsmouth and Willand Pond in Dover and Somersworth.
