Secondhand is Hot: The 20 Best Consignment Shops in New Hampshire
One person's junk is another person's treasure, and this couldn't be truer than now.
There's so much to love about thrift shopping, and it's having its moment as so many continue to discover great finds.
Steve Preston, the President & CEO of Goodwill Industries International, says consignment and thrift stores are up by huge percentages, as people looks for deals and spend their money more wisely. There are Goodwill Stores from Portsmouth to Nashua, Laconia, and many towns in between within New Hampshire.
According to cnn.com, Preston recently talked about the boom in second-hand fashion, not just nationally, but globally.
Popular consignment shop Thread Up reports that, "The global secondhand market is expected to nearly double by 2027, reaching $350 Billion."
Thread Up CEO James Reinhart reports,
Resale is starting to blossom globally, with many of the largest retailers in the world adopting more circular business models. While value continues to be a key driver that motivates consumers to think secondhand first, global climate issues have increased awareness of resale’s potential to reduce fashion’s impact on the environment.
With only 52% shopping secondhand in 2022, that number has skyrocketed in 2023. Roughly 75% of people have shopped or are open to shopping for secondhand clothing. The younger demos have no problem shopping consignment stores or online shops, with a whopping 82% of Gen Z in that category, driving most of the online resale sites.
Value, quality, and selection are the driving factors for turning to a thrift, consignment, or resale shop for not only apparel, but also furniture and appliances.
It's not just an increase in purchasing from stores and non-profits like Goodwill. Donations are also up by a large percentage, as sustainability is a key factor for everyone.
And with non-profit donations, that money often stays in the community to assist with various job training and other forms of assistance. This could be something to think about as you peruse this list of your favorite thrift and consignment stores in New Hampshire, as voted on Facebook.
