Children can find out how to become a Cub Scout during Apple Harvest Day in downtown Dover.

Michael Farr, popcorn kernel for Pack 180, said they are holding a recruitment event where children will be exposed to some of the activities Cub Scouts get to participate in.

Farr said Cub Scouts in Dover go to Camp Carpenter in Manchester in the summer.

Camp Carpenter is a 250-acre wooded property where scouts participate in archery, arts and crafts, BB gun shooting sports, field sports, Scout skills and many other themed activities, according to their website.

There will also be popcorn on sale during Apple Harvest Day in Dover. The money raised through the sale of popcorn in the fall pays for programming.

Farr said some families need financial assistance so their children can participate in Cub Scouts right now, so the more popcorn that is sold, the better.

"The kids should have something to do and a financial hardship should not be a reason that they're not involved in scouting or anything else they want to do," Farr said.

Apple Harvest Day will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Oct. 2 and will feature over 300 vendors.

The event, which started in 1985, is highly anticipated every year and is back in downtown Dover this fall.

With more than 60,000 people on average, the festival is one of the most popular in the region.
