Julia Roberts was 'The Runaway Bride'

Back in 1999, Julia Roberts once again starred opposite Richard Gere after the success of their first movie together, Pretty Woman, to bring a movie about a woman who became notorious for leaving fiancés at the altar on their wedding. Even though the term "runaway bride" was used before the movie, it became way more popular after the release of the movie.

And while normally a runaway bride isn't necessarily a great classification to have, it is when it comes to helping feed the hungry in Maine. Because that's exactly what happened over the weekend in New Gloucester.

The Running of the Brides 5K

According to WGME, an outside-the-box 5K was held in New Gloucester on Sunday to benefit Good Shepherd Food Bank in helping to feed the hungry across Maine. 'The Running of the Brides 5K' was held at Coolidge Family Farm and saw participants, whether male or female, dress up in wedding dresses and compete in the unofficial 5K. The running of the brides theme was a clear fit, considering the farm is known for hosting some of the most beautiful weddings ever seen in Vacationland.

Misty Coolidge, who coordinated the event, told WGME that she's actually a volunteer at Good Shepherd and has wanted to fight hunger for years. She plans on holding a race every other year. WGME is reporting that about $500 was raised from this past Sunday's event, which is massive considering Good Shepherd can feed a family of three with just $1.
