NH Fish & Game talked a naked Massachsetts man off the roof of the New Zealand Hut on the Appalachain Trail in Bethlehem Saturday afternoon.

Agents from NH Fish and Game and the U.S. Forest Service responded to a call reporting a hiker was threatening others at the lodge located 2.8 miles from the New Zealand Trail trailhead. It is accessible only by a hike.

It took the agents over an hour to deescalate the situation and talk the man, identified by Fish and Game as Brian Cheverier, 35 of Boylston, Massachusetts, off the roof. He was walked out to the trailhead around 10 p.m. and taken into custody on charges that are pending.

Fish & Game did not disclose what prompted the man to climb to the roof.

No one was injured at the hut.

The hut, operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club, provides indoor accommodations including bunkrooms, washrooms and composting toilets. They are not heated and have no lighting or electrical outlets.
