Eight people were injured Sunday night in a head-on crash involving an alleged drunk driver on Route 4 in Durham.

The driver of a Nissan Murano, Jeremy Openshaw, 21, of Hanover, Mass., was traveling eastbound near Main Street (Route 155A) around 11:20 p.m. and lost control, according to Durham police officials.

Openshaw crossed over the double yellow line onto the westbound on-ramp from Main Street, over the median and into the westbound lanes where he struck an eastbound Mazda CX-5.

The four occupants of each vehicle were hospitalized with some sustaining serious bodily injuries. One juvenile was later transferred to Maine Medical Center for treatment of potentially life-threatening injuries, according to officials.

Openshaw was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated.

Durham police asked anyone with information about the crash to call them at 603-868-2324.
