The Celtics kick off what fans in New England hope will be a long 2023 Playoff run this weekend at TD Garden. (Good luck in advance getting the concessions staff to let you keep your bottlecaps.)
Even though the Celtics are relatively young, it feels like a make-or-break spring. And a lot of that angst stems from questions about the team’s focus.
Again, the Celtics are young. So, while Jayson Tatum is a genuine MVP candidate and could one day be an all-time Celtics great, he just turned 25, and has a slight reputation for fading in and out of some games.
(He’s also busy with the opening of his new “good-for-you” candy company.)
Jaylen Brown’s sometimes talked about as Tatum’s Scottie Pippen – a do-it-all wing who can score and defend and play with intelligence. But questions about his off-the-court were raised when some felt he seemed eerily loyal to his off-the-rails former teammate, Kyrie Irving.
Then…there is Grant Williams. How does one describe Grant Williams?
He is this team’s version of Kramer from "Seinfeld"; when he makes the right play, it’s amazing. But when he’s wrong? Look out. He's a man who’s made some of us realize just how much we sound like our dads when we shout at the TV.
The Grant Williams Experience was on full display recently when the team posted a video where players shared the most famous numbers in their phones. Tatum had Jay Z’s, while Jaylen Brown said that he had President Obama’s.
Given his history of talking trash, you could feel the skepticism through the screen when Grant Williams boasted about having Mark Wahlberg at the ready. But then he clicked “FaceTime” and, well, it’s just another case of Grant being Grant…
