If you are thinking of escaping to Hampton Beach this weekend, it appears that Sunday will be the better day if you plan to play on the sand.

Meteorologist William Watson of the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine, said on Friday morning that there would likely be showers and clouds that could linger into the late morning on Saturday.

"It will gradually clear, with the probability of mostly sunny to partly cloudy skies toward the afternoon," Watson said.

The high will be about 67 degrees, Watson said.

Sunday looks like a much better day for beachgoers.

It will likely be in the upper 70s in Hampton on Sunday with a slight southwest breeze, Watson said.

"The chance of rain comes back on Sunday night," Watson said.

How is the water?

Watson said the Atlantic Ocean at Hampton Beach is generally in the upper 50s to lower 60s at this time of year.

"It's still pretty chilly. It's probably warmer at the lakes," Watson said.
