The Governor’s Inn to Host Rochester Arts Awards Held on September 27

The annual Rochester Arts Awards put on by the Commission for Arts & Culture for the city of Rochester is going ahead on September 27 at the Governor’s Inn after a postponement of festivities was initially scheduled in August. The ceremony honoring local artists will begin at 6 pm.

8^th Annual Rochester Art Awards

This will be the 8^th ceremony to celebrate and honor local arts in the community.  In case you don’t know about the commission, they meet each month to find ways to support the arts and raise awareness of the arts in Rochester.

I am often delighted by the unique art that I find in my city.  I loved what they did with the parking barriers this summer and was pleased to see that the designer of those outdoor parking barriers is being honored.

Mike Durkee, a muralist was behind the project.  His work can also be seen at the Community Center with the mural “All Are Welcome Here,” according to city officials.

There are more than 150 pieces of art exhibited at the Community Center, you should check them out.

The Honorees

In addition to Mike Durkee, another muralist being honored is Tom Glover, a painter who also restores works of art.

John Grsis is being honored as a photographer who even has even published his own calendar and donated some of the profits to local charities.

Waterstone Properties makes the list as a Supporter of the Arts.

Tanya Lee Harvey, a photographer, and educator now have a business above the local Chamber of Commerce helping her share her love of photography with others.

Ed Pacht is being honored as a Poet.  He loves to relate storytelling at local events.

Bianca Mireles is a muralist who relocated to Rochester from Texas.

These are just a few of the shining stars of Art in Rochester check out the awards for all the winners.  I know the biggest winner is the city of Rochester for having such talented artists in residence.
