After taking three of a possible four points in an opening-series win vs. Maine, the University of New Hampshire men's hockey team is shifting its attention toward this weekend's series against Merrimack.

The Wildcats will host Merrimack on Saturday at Whittemore Center before heading to Massachusetts for the second end of a home-and-home series on Sunday.

"It's an interesting week for us this week," UNH head coach Mike Souza said in his weekly press conference. "We have some exams this week and guys are cognizant of that. We've got kind of an interesting practice schedule this week. We're just excited to get out there and play again this week."

The Wildcats played to a 1-1 tie despite later falling in a shootout in last Friday's game against Maine. However, UNH rebounded in a big way to the tune of a 6-2 win on the following night.

"Very thankful we were able to play," Souza said. "The guys were excited and I think it showed in their play. Maine is a tough team and their goaltender played excellently on Friday night. That was exciting."

Saturday's game against Merrimack will be broadcast on NESN at 3:30 p.m. The teams will play again at Merrimack on Sunday at 4 p.m., but the game will not be shown on NESN.

Hockey East announced Tuesday that all games played during the regular season will count as conference games and each member school will make the Hockey East tournament. The new measure is designed to act as a balance in the event teams do not finish the season with an equal number of games played due to potential COVID-19 complications.
