A female was struck and killed by an Amtrak Downeaster train in Durham Friday morning.

Durham Deputy Police Chief David Holmstock said the individual was struck near the Bennett Road overpass near the Doe Farm parking area around 9:20 a.m. The person who was struck was found lying near the tracks, and was already dead when first responders arrived.

The New Hampshire Office of the Chief Medical Examiner has ruled the death a suicide, according to Holmstock. The identity of the deceased was not disclosed.

Service on the Downeaster line had lengthy delays during the initial investigation of the scene. Normal service resumed around 1:40 p.m., according to Amtrak.

A pedestrian was struck and killed by an Amtrak Downeaster train in Exeter in December.
