Unique Downtown Businesses in Dover, NH Thrive as City Rebounds
The Dover area businesses that are recovering best from the economic crisis associated with the COVID-19 pandemic are ones that offer unique products or services that cannot be purchased elsewhere.
That's according to Margaret Joyce, president of the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce.
Joyce highlighted My Country Story on Central Avenue, which specializes in local, handmade gifts. The company uses social media to help promote online sales.
Joyce said there is a new skateboard shop and comic book shop in Dover, so she sees the trend downtown moving toward more specialized businesses which can attract people to the city.
There are also some traditional businesses that did well even during the pandemic because the purchase of their products involves emotion.
Joyce said Jewelry Creations on Central Avenue, which is a Hearts on Fire diamond dealer, offers products that should be seen and held before being purchased.
"They did very well during the pandemic," Joyce said.
There are a number of ribbon-cutting ceremonies happening in Dover right now as new business owners pursue their dreams.
On Tuesday at 3:30 p.m., there will be a ribbon-cutting ceremony at The Groovy Witch located at 453 Central Ave.
The Groovy Witch is a boutique clothing store and dress shop for women.
Leaders at the Greater Dover Chamber of Commerce offer information and resources for business owners in the area, as well as resources for visitors.
