Squid Game fans, your moment is here. You can participate in real-life squid games.
I will have to assume there will be no (spoiler alert) homicide, since this will be on Netflix.
Netflix announced, "Netflix is bringing the global phenomenon Squid Game to life with the biggest reality competition series ever, Squid Game: The Challenge."
Squid Games currently is the record holder as "Netflix’s most popular series of all time, with over 1.65 billion view hours in the first 28 days after its September 2021 premiere," according to the Netflix release.
For the few who have never seen Squid Games, it is a competition-based game. They took 456 individuals who were in massive amounts of debt, and put them through six games. The grand prize: 45.6 billion.
With no other spoilers coming from me, that is where I will leave it.
Since the show was so successful in 2021, not only is Netflix bringing it back for a second season, they are creating a real-life Squid Game: The Challenge.
The grand prize? 4.56 million.
Straight from the Netflix release: "With both the largest cast and lump sum cash prize in reality TV history, 456 real players will enter the game in pursuit of a life-changing reward of $4.56 million."
Naturally, I want to audition, and you can too here: SquidGameCasting.com. More importantly, I began thinking of the kind of person who would win this game.
The winner will likely be extremely well-rounded. The games are a combination of brains, strength, creativity, athleticism, patience, kindness, communication, and the ability to make friends.
To be fair, there are many strategies in the show. However, we see that there are a variety of games that being well-rounded would help you out the most.
So what would the winner look like? Where would they be from?
That got me thinking about a New England squid games. What state would be the best represented?
You have six states and six breeds of people: A Bay Stater, Granite Stater, Rhode Islander, Mainer, Vermonter, or Connecticuter.
If I were a betting man, I would pick someone from Vermont, with second place being someone in my home state of New Hampshire.
Vermont and New Hampshire competitors would compete similarly. Both would be hard workers, willing to step up, physical, strong, athletic, outdoorsy, good-hearted people, and passionate.
Where I think a Vermonter sneaks ahead of a Granite Stater is their ability to work with others, be compassionate, and communicate.
Maybe it is my preconceived notions. Maybe it is because I go up to the White Mountains in New Hampshire to get away from people. Maybe I have only met incredibly kind and well-rounded people from Vermont. Maybe it is because of Bernie Sanders.
Either way, I would love to see someone from the 603 or anywhere in New England win the real 4.56 million.
What state do you think would do the best?
