A couple walking on Four Tree Island in Portsmouth Thursday morning found the body of an 80-year-old man, according to the State Police Marine Patrol.

Police said the couple were walking on the east side of the island at the base of the jetty in the Piscataqua River around 10:20 a.m. and spotted the man who was fully dressed in a jacket, jeans and work boots. The Portsmouth Fire Department pulled the body out of the water.

Foul play is not suspected in the man's death, according to police, who did not disclose his identity pending notification of family.

The Marine Patrol asked anyone with information about the incident to call them at 603-227-2114.

Four Tree Island is part of the city's Prescott Park which is open for walking in the winter.
