The water tower on Church Street in Hampton sprung a leak Wednesday afternoon.

The leak caused Church Street between Ocean Boulevard and the Highland Avenue extension to be closed because of flooding in the roadway, according to police. Water pressure was restored to the beach area around 5:30 p.m.

The road will be closed while the DPW treats the road for ice that has formed.

Aquarion Water has not disclosed a cause of the leak.
