Small Plane Crashes in Londonderry, New Hampshire, Neighborhood
A small plane crashed in a Londonderry neighborhood Friday morning.
The FAA told Seacoast Current a Beechcraft 99 flown by Wiggins Air left Manchester-Boston Regional Airport around 7:30 a.m. and crashed shortly after takeoff. Only the pilot was on board.
Boston 25 News reported the plane went down in a yard on Colonial Drive about eight miles from the airport. A photo posted by WMUR shows the wreckage in a wooded area.
During a media briefing late Friday morning, Londonderry Fire Chief Bo Butler said the plane came to a rest 70 feet from a house.
It was a "really lucky day" for the pilot, who was pulled from the wreckage with serious injuries, Butler said. He was flown to a Boston hospital.
Crews are working to clean up approximately 250 gallons of jet fuel.
Flight 1046 was headed to Presque Isle International Airport in Maine to deliver cargo, according to Butler.
The NTSB will lead the investigation into the crash.
A pilot from Michigan died when his plane crashed into the Merrimack River off Reed Drive in Bedford in 2021 next to an apartment complex. The plane, a Swearingen SA-226, reported engine failure on its final approach to the Manchester airport.
