Amtrak Downeaster Train Hits Pickup Near NH/MA Border
One person was killed when an Amtrak Downeaster train hit a pickup truck at a crossing in Haverhill.
Amtrak in a statement said the Downeaster train #683 heading to Brunswick, Maine from Boston hit the truck that was "obstructing the tracks" at the Rosemont Street crossing just south of the border with New Hampshire at 12:47 p.m.
NBC Boston reported a truck as seen flipped over against a tree near the crossing.
The Essex County District Attorney's Office told Seacoast Current that a death connected to the crash is under investigation but did not disclose details.
None of the 80 passengers or crew were injured in the crash, according to the railroad. The train left Boston's North Station at 11:50 a.m. and was headed to its next stop in Exeter at 12:59 p.m. It was due in Brunswick at 3:10 p.m.
The passengers from #683 were transferred to the next trains, #684 and #687, according to an Amtrak tweet.
