Don't you love when random surveys come out either aligning or drastically distancing yourself with the other members of your state?
Well, a 2022 survey of the top road trip snacks has officially been released. The data comes from an Upgraded Points article that looked up the last five years’ worth of Google Trends data for each snack in each state to determine clear winners for the most popular road trip snack in each state, region, and overall.
Let the debate begin.
Let's start with the Granite State: New Hampshire. I would have guessed something like beef jerky. I was not surprised to find out it was actually sunflower seeds. Kind of fits... I spit seeds.
Now Vermont. What would New Hampshire's upside-down twin be? My first guess was granola. Nope. Okay, Ice cream? Ben and Jerry's? Nope! Just like its neighbor: sunflower seeds.
Moving up north to "Vacationland," Maine would have to be some kind of seafood snack. What seafood is a "roundtrip snack?" Swedish fish? Negative!
According to Google Trends per the report, rice cakes earned the number one spot in the state of Maine.
Rhode Island also had rice cakes coming in at number one.
Sticking with the New England theme, Massachusetts shocked me. I did not really know what to expect. I suppose when I think of "road trip snack" I immediately think chips, trail mix, and candy for my lady!
Massachusetts folks, along with New Yorkers, are actually found to be craving hummus.
That's a bizarre road trip snack if you ask me, but depending on what you are dipping it with, way to be healthy NY and MA.
Connecticut was the oddball for the New England states; however, if you ask me, their snack makes the most sense. Connecticut, Indiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Wyoming all chose the #1 snack overall: Potato Chips.
Outside of New England, Combos had a huge hold in the south (leading in seven states); whereas Flaming Hot Cheetos held down California and Oregon.
Other notable mentions are Sour Patch Kids, Popcorn, and Pork Rinds.
Again, this data came from Google Trends - not my personal opinion. I am curious though...what is your go-to road trip snack?
Do you agree with the "top" choices?
