The search for speeders and aggressive drivers during the Memorial Day holiday weekend got off to an early start Thursday night when state police clocked a Corvette at 150 miles per hour on the Spaulding Turnpike.

The State Police Special Enforcement Unit has been preparing for the holiday weekend the past two Sunday mornings with special enforcement details on Route 95.

Nearly 180 traffic stops were made with three drivers clocked for allegedly traveling over 115 miles per hour and nearly eighty drivers hitting 100.

Thursday night's speedster on Route 16 in Rochester was arrested and charged with operating after suspension and reckless operation.

State police are reminding people to be safe during the upcoming long weekend.

"Memorial Day weekend is here, which brings increased travel throughout our state by vehicle and by vessel. Saving lives on the roadways and waterways is our top priority and we ask for everyone's assistance in keeping those around us safe," said a press release issued on behalf of Col. Nathan Noyes and the troopers.
