Corvette Speeds Off Atkinson, NH Road, Bursts Into Flames
The driver of a Corvette suffered serious burns when the car burst into flames after it went off an Atkinson road and landed at the edge of a fire pond on Saturday night.
Atkinson Police Chief Timothy Crowley said speed appears to be a factor in the crash when the Corvette traveling on Salem Road went off the road at the intersection with Sawyer Road around 9:30 p.m.
The driver crawled out of his vehicle and was taken to Lawrence General Hospital and then a Boston hospital where he was in serious condition on Sunday afternoon, according to Crowley.
Crowley did not disclose the identity of the driver.
Witness Nick Abisalih, who posted a video in the comments of the Rockingham Alert Facebook page, said he helped the driver out of the water after he jumped in as the car caught fire.
The Corvette was completely destroyed by the crash and fire and the investigation is ongoing, the chief said in a statement.
