A beloved police dog in Dover who has served the community since 2014 is leaving the force after a distinguished career.

Born in 2013, K9 Barco has had over 500 deployments while working in Strafford County. He spent the majority of his career as a member of the Strafford County Regional Tactical Operations Unit.

K9 Barco has located missing people, recovered evidence and tracked wanted fugitives, according to a Facebook post released by police officials on Monday.

Within three hours, there were 580 reactions, 66 comments and 35 shares on the Facebook post.

K9 Barco's handler and trainer, Sgt. Matt Brown, will continue to care for him as he retires at home.
