🔴 Shots were fired Monday night in the area of Lafayette Road and Stickney Terrace in Hampton

🔴 Officers determined Richard Butler fired the shots outside his apartment building

🔴 Butler was charged and has an arraignment hearing Wednesday morning

A resident of an apartment building was arrested and charged after firing off a gun Monday night.

Hampton Police Capt. Anthony Azarian said several calls were received about shots being fired around 8:15 p.m. in the area of Lafayette Road and Stickney Terrace. Officers recovered several spent rounds in the driveway of one of the buildings.

While speaking with residents, officers determined that resident Richard Butler was responsible for firing off the shots. They obtained a search warrant for his unit, and found evidence to support charges.

Azarian did not disclose why Butler fired off the shots. He said it appears to be an isolated incident and no one was injured.

Butler turned himself into police Tuesday and was charged with felon in possession of a dangerous weapon, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, and unauthorized use of a firearm. He is being held at the Rockingham County Department of Corrections, pending arraignment.
