A Hampton Police Department motorcycle officer was struck while on duty early Saturday morning.

The officer was hit by a Jeep on Ashworth Avenue at I Street across from the Marguerite Motel around 1:50 a.m., Hampton Police Deputy Chief Alex Reno told Seacoast Current.

The officer sustained minor injuries and was taken to a hospital to be checked, according to Reno, who said the officer is expected to be okay.

Ashworth Avenue is a one-way street at that intersection.

Reno did not disclose the identity of the officer, the circumstances of the crash or if any charges had been filed.

State Police are investigating the incident.
