A Maine driver was charged with multiple DUI charges after veering across Interstate 95 in North Hampton and hitting several oncoming vehicles Saturday night.

New Hampshire State Police said Douglas McKay, 50, of Cape Neddick was driving a Subaru Outback north on I-95 around 9:15 p.m. and went across the center median into the southbound lanes. McKay drove into the oncoming traffic, hitting three vehicles and sending four people to hospitals.

The crash left a large amount of debris scattered across the highway, and kept all travel lanes closed for over two hours.

A 2013 Honda Civic driven by Sienna Waite, 24, of Salem, Massachusetts, a 2021 Nissan Rouge being operated by Amanda Porter, 45, of Amesbury, and a Mini Cooper driven by Etan Jury, 34, of Philadelphia, were all struck by McKay, according to State Police. McKay was also hospitalized for his injuries.

McKay was charged with aggravated driving under the influence of drugs or liquor, driving under the influence of drugs or liquor, reckless conduct, and vehicular assault. He was held at the hospital where he was being treated, pending an appearance in Rockingham County Superior Court.

Witnesses to the crash are asked by State Police to call 603-223-4381.
