Well, it's gonna make a hell of a story at Thanksgiving.
According to WMTW, 24-year-old Tameika Girardin from Lewiston was wanted by the Windham Police for burglary. She was actually caught and arrested in Lewiston. So Windham police went to Lewiston to pick her up. That's when a scuffle took place and Tameika ended up shooting herself in her own butt with the officer's gun. I know it's not supposed to be funny, but it's a little funny.
While the police were leading her from the police station to a cruiser, she started to fight them while she was handcuffed. She grabbed for an officer's gun, while it was still in the holster and she fired the gun. That's the shot that hit her in her own rear end.
Police say that the gun never left the holster and she was treated right there, then taken to the hospital where she was treated and released. This happened Tuesday night, August 16. The good news is that she wasn't seriously injured and no one else was hurt. She's currently at the Cumberland County jail in Portland and looking at several charges including assault, criminal mischief, burglary, and violations of release conditions.
I have not walked a mile in either one of these shoes. The young woman who obviously is in a bad spot in life or the police who ended up risking their lives in dealing with what should have been an easy everyday transfer. It's lucky that no one was seriously injured.
