UNH graduate Clare Egan ends her competition at the 2022 Winter Olympics with the fifth of six Biathlon events on Wednesday while Portsmouth native Colby Stevenson goes for gold.

Thin air and bitter cold were factors in the Women's 4x6km relay, which has competitors again skiing a challenging course before shooting twice in the prone and standing positions.

Egan, along with fellow Americans Susan Dunklee, Deedra Irwin, and Joanne Reid, finished 11th in the event.  Sweden won the gold followed by silver for the ROC (Russian Olympics Committee) and bronze for Germany.

Egan, 34, started strong with a 7th place finish in the 4×6-kilometer mixed relay, helping Team USA tie its best ever finish in the event. She placed 39th on  in the Women’s 15km individual. Egan shot in the women's 7.5km sprint on Friday morning and finished in 46th place and 38th in the Women's 10km pursuit on Sunday.

The Cape Elizabeth native will be inducted into the Maine Sports Hall of Fame as part of its 2022 class in October.

Portsmouth Native Places 7th

Skier Colby Stevenson, a Portsmouth native, placed 7th in slopestyle on Tuesday with a best run of 77.41 propelling him into the finals on Wednesday.

“I am so happy to show my stuff on the world stage and ski the way that I did,” Stevenson said. “It wasn’t exactly what I wanted today, but that’s how it goes, man, when you’re laying it all on the line. Give it your best and make sure to have fun. You don’t want to get too upset if you don’t do well. We’re living it.”

Stevenson earlier won silver in big air freestyle.
