A 79-year-old man was found dead inside a kayak in the Exeter River Saturday.

NH Fish & Game said Brentwood police were called about the kayak in the river near Juniper Lane by a resident who saw the man lying down inside and not responding to them. An officer went into the river and pulled the kayak to land.

Brentwood Fire & EMS, Fremont Police and New Hampshire Fish and Game Conservation Officers were called to the scene and confirmed the man was deceased.

An initial investigation has determined the man likely suffered a fatal medical emergency while hunting along the river, according to NH Fish & Game. The man's identity was not disclosed pending notification of family.

NH Fish & Game said the incident serves as a reminder for hunters and those participating in outdoor recreation to let someone know of your location in case of an emergency.
