One person was hospitalized after being shot in the leg at a home during a "heated altercation" in Danville late Sunday morning.

Danville Police said they were called to a home on Spruce Road around 11:50 a.m. and found two men outside who had been fighting. During their struggle, Branden Brown, 55, fired a handgun which struck the other man in the leg.

The other man, whose identify was not disclosed, was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.

Police did not disclose the circumstances of their fight or the relationship between the men.

Brown was also hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries and later taken to the Rockingham County Jail where is being held on first degree assault, reckless conduct (felony level), and criminal threatening.

An investigation is ongoing and additional charges may be filed.
