An 18-year-old motorcyclist who appeared to suffer a head injury after hitting the driver's side door of a car was transported via medical helicopter on Sunday morning.

First responders arrived with five minutes of being notified about the incident on Main Street (Route 121A) in Plaistow around 10:40 a.m., according to Fire Chief Chris Knutsen. The man was conscious but showing signs of a head injury and his helmet was significantly damaged.

A photo of the crash shows damage to the door's mirror and deep dents and scratches to the door. The motorcycle is laying on its side.

Knutsen did not disclose the identity of either driver or the circumstances of the crash.

The motorcyclist was flown to a trauma center via Boston Med Flight after being taken to a landing zone. The driver of the car was not hurt, according to the chief.

Knusten praised all involved, from dispatchers and ground personnel to the flight crew for getting the man en route to a trauma center within "the golden hour of injury" in which a patient receives care within an hour of an incident.
