Firefighters quickly put out a fire in the ductwork of a Newburyport restaurant late Friday night.

The cleaning crew at the Sea Level Oyster Bar restaurant in Market Square called 911 around 11:30 p.m., according to Chief Stephen H. Bradbury III. Responding firefighters broke through the ceiling to reach the flames and had the fire extinguished by 12:15 a.m.

No one was injured, and Bradbury described the damage to the restaurant as "minimal." There was no impact on the Firehouse Center Theater next door.

“Our crews responded quickly and made sure the fire did not spread, which can happen with these types of fires,” Bradbury said. “I’m extremely thankful for our firefighters’ excellent work.”
