Get ready for the Portsmouth Holiday Parade

As we put 2020 and soon 2021 behind us, let’s hope the worst of the pandemic is over and life can get back to normal.

One sign of normalcy is that the Portsmouth, New Hampshire, Holiday Parade and Tree lighting is back on this year.

The Halloween Parade in Portsmouth was a huge success this year, and I am guessing the Holiday Parade in Portsmouth will not disappoint.

This year’s Festivities

This year’s festivities will be on December 4 and if it is raining, it will happen on December 5, according to city officials.  Those dates are Saturday and Sunday so as not to disturb too much traffic and give everyone who doesn’t work on the weekends to attend.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony will begin at 5:00 pm, but the party will get started shortly before at 4:00 pm with a DJ spinning holiday music while everyone gets a nice spot to watch the tree lighting.

At around 6:00 pm the parade kicks off.

Where to Get the Best View

The parade begins at Goodwin Park at Summer/Islington Street and runs down most of Islington Street, merges onto Congress Street and ends on Pleasant Street, according to city officials.

Plenty of places to claim a spot to see the floats and performers kick off the holiday season.  Keep your eye out for roaming volunteers who will be on hand to gather up non-perishable food donations to support local food pantries.

The volunteers collecting donations can be found along the entire route of the parade.

Let’s celebrate the season and hope for a better year!

I think Portsmouth is one of the most beautiful towns in America, I love all the historic homes.
