The identity of the person struck near the entrance of Prescott Park in Portsmouth just before dawn Tuesday was identified as police continue to seek witnesses to the incident.

Portsmouth police said Robert A. Mayo, 53, formerly of Hooksett and Londonderry, was struck on Marcy Street near State Street and an entrance into Prescott Park around 4:55 a.m. Mayo was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital for treatment of serious injuries, but was pronounced dead.

The driver, Yvonne S. Reed, 50, and her Oldsmobile Cutlass sedan were located nearby after the crash. Police said Reed is cooperating with the investigation.

No charges have been filed in the case.

Police are looking to speak with anyone who saw the car before the crash or witnessed it to call them at 603-431-1191
