A Verizon issue is preventing 9-1-1 text messages from getting through on Friday afternoon.

The New Hampshire Department of Safety’s Division of Emergency Services and
Communications said the issue has been reported to Verizon and their engineers are trying to resolve the issue.

Many texting to 9-1-1 are receiving a message instructing people to call 911.

No network issues have been identified with voice calls to 9-1-1, and there have been no reports of issues from users of other carriers attempting to text 9-1-1.
