The Wrong Way to Celebrate National Donut Day
There are easier ways to take advantage of the offers on National Donut Day.
Some thieves did it the hard way by robbing several stores on Route 28 in New Hampshire and Massachusetts on Friday morning.
Windham Police Chief Michael Caron told Seacoast Current that the Honey Dew Donut shop on Mammoth Road was robbed in the early morning hours. Officers were told there were several other donut stores in the area.
One of those was apparently the Dunkin' on Mammoth Road in Pelham, where thieves made off with a tip jar, according to Pelham Police Capt. Anne Perriello. She released photos from surveillance video of a suspect and their getaway vehicle.
"We do believe this crime is connected to the other robberies and or thefts that took place over the early morning hours in other towns in Mass and New Hampshire," Perriello said.
Dracut Police reported an attempted robbery at the Heav'nly Donuts on Merrimack Avenue just after 5:30 a.m. on Friday when a man walked in and handed the cashier a note that he had a weapon. He unsuccessfully tried to take the cash register and fled. Lowell Police are also investigating a similar theft, the Dracut statement said.
"Any possible connection between the incident in Dracut and these other incidents remains under investigation at this time," Dracut Police said.
The was also a robbery at Muldoon Liquors where someone allegedly smashed the front door and stole lottery tickets.
The Dracut suspect is described as a white male wearing shorts and flip flops.
Many donut stores have special offers to commemorate National Donut Day.
Dunkin' is offering a free classic donut with the purchase of a drink. Honey Dew has a similar offer for medium drink purchases.
Aroma Joe's customers can get a free donut with the purchase of a 24 oz iced coffee.
