Two people were killed in a car crash in Dover in the early hours of Thursday, March 18, according to a press release from the Dover Police Department.

A BMW sedan had hit a utility pole and was "engulfed in flames" when it was discovered at 12:25 a.m. by a Dover police officer, police said. The site of the crash was on Sixth Street near Longhill Road.

The identities of the two people killed in the crash are being held until next-of-kin are notified, the department stated.

The City of Dover said in a press release that the intersection will remain closed for most of the day and Eversource is there to try and fix the utility pole and downed power lines.

Here are some of the road specifics to note for drivers in the area, per the city:

  • Sixth Street is closed between Long Hill Road and County Farm Cross Road.
  • Traffic is detoured via County Farm Road and County Farm Cross Road.
  • Long Hill Road is open to traffic.
  • Traffic on Long Hill Road turning left onto Sixth Street will be detoured down County Farm Cross Road.
