A Portsmouth man was killed in a head on crash on Route 1 in North Hampton Thursday night.

New Hampshire State Police said a 2007 Honda Civic driven by Matthew Meisner, 37, of Hampton, heading south crossed over two double yellow lines and the middle turn lane at Granite Road around 9:45 p.m., striking a southbound 2019 Hyundai Tucson head-on.

The driver of the Tucson, Alexander Price, 25, was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital where he later died. Meisner sustained serious injuries in the crash.

Police said it is not known why Meisner crossed into the northbound lane, and all aspects of the crash remain under investigation.

State Police asked any witnesses to the crash to call 603-545-4288.
