A body was found floating in the water off Salisbury early Tuesday morning.

Essex County District Attorney Paul F. Tucker said the body of a man was spotted by someone walking along the beach behind the Blue Ocean Event Center around 1 a.m.  First responders pronounced the man dead at the scene after police pulled the body out of the water.

The man's identity was not disclosed, pending notification of family.

Salisbury police Chief Thomas Fowler told the Newburyport Daily News that the man has had several encounters with officers, and also has mental health issues.
