A truck with flames coming out of its exhaust is the likely cause of several smokey brush fires along the Everett Turnpike in Merrimack Sunday afternoon.

The fires developed around 1:30 p.m along the southbound lanes, with some spreading to the woodline along the edge of several residential properties, according to New Hampshire State Police. Merrimack and Nashua firefighters worked to put out the flames.

The right lane of the highway was closed for about 30 minutes to allow for firefighting operations.

Police are looking for a yellow Mack truck with “Kallwall” lettering written on the side panels, believed to be responsible. Anyone with information about the truck is asked by State Police to call 603-271-3636.
