Here Comes the Saturday Snow to NH, ME
Snow is on track for the Seacoast Saturday but lesser amounts are expected to fall in immediate coastal areas.
A Winter Storm Warning is in effect for most of the state Saturday afternoon until Sunday at 11 a.m. where the precipitation will fall as all snow while the immediate coastal areas of New Hampshire where the snow will mix with sleet and rain is under a Winter Weather Advisory.
4-6 inches of snow is expected to fall in the interior areas of southern New Hampshire and Maine by the time the snow ends Sunday morning while 6-8 inches are expected in central and northern New Hampshire, according to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine.
"We'll start seeing some light snow early this afternoon. That snow will be more widespread in interior sections of New Hampshire. Temperatures will be increasing later to where some of those coastal areas could rain and sleet mixing in," meteorologist Greg Cornwell told Seacoast Current.
Interior areas of southern New Hampshire along the Massachusetts border could also see a mix which will hold down accumulations, according to Cornwell.
The milder ocean water temperature will help with the mixing along the immediate coast.
"We just don't have that strong of a cold air mass overhead to overwhelm that warmer effect along the coast. Temperatures tend to stay milder over the water and that can help to cut accumulations along the coast," Cornwell said.
Parking Restrictions in Effect for Some Communities
The city of Portsmouth late Saturday morning updated its snow parking ban and put it on hold. A ban was announced earlier on Friday
A city wide ban on street parking is also in effect in Somersworth starting at 10 p.m. Saturday night continuing until 7 a.m. Sunday morning. A downtown parking ban begins at midnight and ends at 7 a.m Sunday.
The City of Dover will have a citywide parking ban from 10 p.m. Saturday night until 6 a.m. Sunday morning meaning no parking is allowed on city streets, sidewalks or adjacent public parking areas.
Parking is also prohibited in the Third Street and Belknap parking lots, as well as the public parking spaces in the Orchard Street lot.
Eversource said its crews are ready to respond to any outages.
