Lee, New Hampshire, Man Dies in Kittery Crash After Suffering Medical Episode
A Lee man died after suffering a medical episode and colliding head-on with a pickup truck on Route 236 in Kittery Wednesday afternoon, the town's second fatal crash in two weeks.
Kittery Police Chief Robert Richter said the 59-year-old man was driving a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer west on Route 236 near Stevenson Road around 4:15 p.m., and went into the eastbound lanes into the path of a 2021 Chevrolet pickup truck pulling a boat. The driver of the Mountaineer was taken to Portsmouth Regional Hospital, where he later passed away.
The driver of the pickup was evaluated at the crash scene but did not appear to suffer any serious injuries. Neither vehicle suffered serious damage from the crash.
The identities of both drivers were not disclosed.
The death of the Lee man is believed to have been related to his medical episode and not the crash, according to Richter.
The crash remains under investigation.
One person was killed in a head-on crash on the Route 1 Bypass May 19 at the York border.
