Why Would Someone Paint a New Hampshire Turtle Bright Orange?
Officials at NH Fish and Game are reminding people statewide to not paint turtles.
After a snapping turtle was seen in Perch Pond in Campton with an orange back, a message to the public was posted on social media.
According to the Fish and Game website, there are seven species of turtles that are considered native to New Hampshire.
Some species, such as painted and snapping turtles, are relatively common and widespread throughout the state.
Blanding's turtles are becoming increasingly imperiled, according to Fish and Game officials.
Blanding's turtle, spotted turtle, wood turtle, and box turtle were identified as species in greatest need of conservation in the New Hampshire Wildlife Action Plan.
New Hampshire also has common musk turtles, according to Fish and Game officials.
