If you hear gunfire coming from the Piscataqua River on Tuesday, they're blanks.

The Portsmouth Naval Shipyard will conduct a harbor security training exercise in the vicinity of Gunboat Shoal Buoy #1, located outside of the mouth of the Piscataqua River, which includes the firing of blank ammunition. It may be heard in Rye, New Castle, and Portsmouth.

The U.S. Navy said it's a scheduled exercise, not in response to any specific threat.

This exercise is designed to enhance the training and readiness of Navy harbor security forces.
