The outdoor pool on Peirce Island in Portsmouth is closed Monday due to "acts of vandalism," according to the Portsmouth DPW's Twitter account.

Portsmouth Police Sgt. Nick Small told Seacoast Current that it looks like someone jumped the fence, entered the pool, and defecated in the water on Sunday night. There is no security footage available, according to Lt. David Keaveny.

The Recreation Department website indicates the pool was scheduled to be open for an open swim on Monday afternoon. A 12-hour deep clean chlorination cycle is required to ensure the water is bacteria free.

Portsmouth DPW said it expected the pool to be open on Tuesday.

Keaveny asked anyone with information about the incident to contact the Portsmouth Police dispatch center at 603-436-2145.

Portsmouth Recreation Director Todd Henley on Monday morning did not respond to Seacoast Current's request for more information about the vandalism.
