The Neighborhood Holiday Lights Contest will return to Portsmouth for the 2022 holiday season.

Back for a third Christmas, the contest organized by the Citywide Neighborhood Committee first started during Halloween in 2020, and has proven to be a popular new holiday tradition.

Registration for displays is open now through December 10 at the Holiday Lights Contest 2022 website. The contest is open to all Portsmouth residents. The entries will be judged by school-aged children, who will be driven through their assigned neighborhoods (not their own) between December 11 and 19 to make their choices of the best holiday lights displays.

Judges will select which category is most appropriate for each entry they view.

The top three winners each receive a $500 gift certificate, with preference given to first-time winners. Honorable mention winners each receive a $25 gift card.

A map of all entries will also be released so everyone can view the entries.
