A Rochester man was charged with the fatal shooting of a Berwick man inside his home Thursday morning.

Police found Mark Forest, 37, severely injured with a shot to the head around 8 a.m., according to Maine State Police spokeswoman Shannon Moss. Forest was taken to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital in Dover where he was pronounced dead. An autopsy Friday ruled his death a homicide.

Investigators determined that Daniel Lafrenier, 37, of Rochester was a person of interest in the case, and enlisted area police to help locate him several hours later, according to Moss.

Suspect Found in York

York Police found Lafrenier trying to enter a home on York Road, and interviewed him at police headquarters. He was subsequently charged with Forest's murder. He's being held at the York County Jail without bail.

Moss did not disclose the relationship between Forest and Lafrenier.

Court documents obtained by WGME's Mal Meyer show there may be another suspect in the case.

A GoFundMe page created to help with funeral expenses said Forest was a father of four.

"Mark was a man who was no stranger to hard work and was loyal to a fault at times. He never failed to tell the ones he loved how much he loved them," the page's creator Alexis Gates wrote.
