Snow-covered roads slowed firefighters headed to a smokey house fire Monday morning in Wolfeboro.

The fire on White Mountain Road was first reported around 6:50 a.m., according to Wakefield Fire/Rescue, which went to a second alarm as smoke billowed from the house. After a third alarm was struck, bringing additional crews, the basement became fully engulfed, forcing firefighters to back out for safety purposes.

"Weekday mornings can make it difficult to get manpower to the scene and the snow covered roads certainly did not help any," the department said in a statement.

Two occupants of the home and a firefighter were checked over for injuries at the scene, but further treatment was not required.

Four inches of snow fell in nearby Acton, Maine, during the storm, according to the National Weather Service in Gray, Maine.
