A Stratham man was charged with the stabbing of a man on Ocean Boulevard in Hampton.

Hampton Police Chief Alex Reno said Joseph James Davis, 18, was involved in an altercation Sunday evening and stabbed a male three times in the leg, including one time that pierced an artery. The individuals involved in the incident fled the the area in two different directions, taking the injured male with them. All of those involved in the altercation knew each other, according to the chief.

One of the groups made it as far as the area of High Street and Moulton Road, where police were called for the report of a possible assault. Reno said the responding officers applied a tourniquet to the injury. Hampton Fire and Rescue took the injured individual to a hospital for treatment of his injury.

A warrant was issued for Davis' arrest on Thursday on one count of second degree assault as a felony for causing bodily injury with a deadly weapon. He was taken into custody and was being held at the Rockingham County Jail.

At the time of the arrest, Davis was on bail from the Rockingham County Superior
Court, according to Reno. He was awaiting a hearing on a felony charge related to an arrest by Seabrook Police.
